Run growth on a fixed cadence, not on mood

Run growth on a fixed cadence, not on mood

A growth system without a rhythm decays into reaction. Work gets done when someone remembers, decisions get made when something breaks, and the lessons evaporate because nothing forces a review. The cadence is the heartbeat that keeps the system alive between the bursts of inspiration.

The structure that works is nested. A quarterly cycle sets the objective and the constraint to attack. A weekly cycle pulls the top backlog items into motion, checks the live numbers, and decides what ships. A short daily touch keeps the in-flight work moving. Each loop has a fixed time, a fixed agenda, and a fixed owner, so it happens whether or not anyone feels like it.

The weekly review is the load-bearing ritual. In one focused session you read the funnel numbers against the model, look at what last week's experiments returned, decide what to launch, kill, or keep, and re-rank the backlog. It is short because the system did the heavy lifting all week. The review is where judgement gets applied to data, not where the data gets gathered for the first time.

Cadence also protects you from the two failure modes of a solo operator or small team: the frantic week where everything is urgent, and the quiet week where nothing happens. A fixed rhythm flattens both. The urgent week still runs the review, and the quiet week still ships the top backlog item, because the calendar decides, not the mood.

Write the cadence down as a real schedule with real meetings, even if the meeting is you and a document. The act of committing it to the calendar is what turns "we should review growth regularly" into a system that actually runs. An undocumented intention to be disciplined is not a cadence.

INTERVIEW EWOUD: What does your actual weekly growth review look like, start to finish? What do you read, in what order, and what decisions come out of it?
