SERP (Search Engine Results Page)
The SERP is the page a search engine returns after a query, the full layout of results a user sees. It's no longer just ten blue links: a modern SERP mixes organic results, paid ads, featured snippets, AI overviews, image and video packs, "people also ask" boxes, maps, and shopping listings, all competing for the same attention.
For a founder, understanding the SERP for your target keywords is step one of any search strategy. The same ranking position means very different things depending on what surrounds it; being position one beneath an AI overview and three ad slots is a different prize than topping a clean results page. Before you invest in ranking for a term, look at its actual SERP: what's there, who owns it, how much real estate is paid versus organic, and whether the engine answers the query itself before anyone clicks. That picture tells you whether the keyword is winnable and worth the effort.
