Zero-click search
A zero-click search is one where the user gets their answer on the results page itself and never clicks through to a website. Google increasingly answers queries directly, via featured snippets, knowledge panels, AI overviews, weather, calculations, and definitions, so the searcher's need is met without visiting any source. A large and growing share of all searches now end this way.
For a founder relying on organic traffic, this is a structural shift worth understanding rather than fearing. Ranking first no longer guarantees the click if Google answers the question above you. The response is twofold. First, recognise that visibility itself has value: being the cited source in an AI overview or snippet builds brand and trust even without a visit. Second, focus your content on queries that genuinely require a click, deep guides, tools, comparisons, and purchase decisions where a one-line answer won't do. Chasing rankings for questions the engine answers itself is increasingly wasted effort.
