Configure handoffs, because deals die in the gaps
The most expensive failures in B2B selling happen at the seams: marketing to sales, sales to onboarding, one rep to another when someone leaves. A deal that is owned by everyone is owned by no one, and a hub that does not encode the handoff lets perfectly good opportunities fall silently into the gap between two teams. Configure the seams as deliberately as you configure the stages.
Start with the marketing-to-sales handoff, because it is where the most leads leak. Define exactly what makes a lead ready for sales, who picks it up, and how fast. Configure the hub to route the lead to a named owner the moment it qualifies, with a task and a clock, so "I thought marketing was still nurturing that" can never happen. An unrouted lead is a lead you paid for and threw away.
Make ownership a hard property, never an assumption. Every deal has exactly one accountable owner at every moment, visible on the record, and the hub should refuse to let a deal sit ownerless. When a rep leaves or a deal moves regions, reassignment is a deliberate action with a trail, not a quiet drift into limbo. Clear ownership is what stops the "someone should follow up" deals from dying.
Configure the sales-to-delivery handoff with the same care, because a won deal that onboards badly churns. The hub should carry the context the delivery team needs (what was promised, who the stakeholders are, why they bought) across the boundary, so the customer never has to re-explain themselves to a new face. A clean handoff record is the difference between a confident kickoff and a shaky one.
The general rule is that every boundary in your revenue process needs an explicit trigger, an explicit receiver and an explicit clock. Where those three are missing, deals stall in the gap and no dashboard shows it, because the deal is technically still open, just abandoned. Configure the gaps, and you recover revenue you are currently losing invisibly.
