RevOps (Revenue Operations)

RevOps, short for revenue operations, is the practice of aligning the systems, data and processes behind marketing, sales and customer success so the whole revenue engine runs as one. Instead of three teams with three tools, three definitions of a 'lead' and three sets of numbers that never reconcile, RevOps owns the shared pipeline, the shared CRM, the handoffs between stages and the reporting everyone trusts.

For a founder this matters the moment you have more than one motion or more than a couple of people touching revenue. Friction usually isn't in any single team; it's in the seams, the lead that drops between marketing and sales, the closed deal that customer success never hears about, the metric each team calculates differently. RevOps fixes the seams.

In practice it's three concrete jobs. First, one source of truth: say you're running sales in Pipedrive, RevOps decides that every deal lives there with the same stage names and the same required fields, so nobody works off a private spreadsheet. Second, automated handoffs: when a deal flips to Won, a Make scenario fires the onboarding kickoff in your project tool and pings the success owner, so nothing falls through the gap between teams. Third, shared reporting: instead of each team quoting its own numbers, you wire pipeline, conversion and churn into one Databox board everyone reads off.

Even as a solo operator, thinking in RevOps terms stops your funnel leaking before you ever hire a team. It's less a department than a way of keeping the revenue machine coherent end to end.
