Wire the commerce hub to the CRM with one source of truth and one direction of flow

Wire the commerce hub to the CRM with one source of truth and one direction of flow

A commerce hub that does not talk to your CRM forces your team to live in two systems and trust neither. But a sloppy integration is worse than none, because it creates confident, contradictory data. The configuration goal is a clean sync where each fact has exactly one owner and flows in exactly one direction.

Start by defining the link. Every customer needs a single shared identifier that ties the commerce record to the CRM record, set at the moment of first purchase. Without that anchor, your sync matches on email and breaks the first time someone buys under a different address. Establish the identifier, store it on both sides, and match on it.

Then decide, field by field, who owns what. Subscription status, plan, amount, and renewal date are owned by the commerce hub and pushed into the CRM as read-only. Relationship data, owner, and pipeline stage are owned by the CRM. Never configure a two-way sync on a field that both systems can edit, because that is how you get a flapping value that overwrites itself.

Use the commerce platform's events to drive the sync rather than polling on a timer. When a subscription is created, upgraded, or cancelled, that event fires immediately and updates the CRM in near real time, so your sales team sees a churn the moment it happens, not at the next nightly batch. Webhooks are the right primitive here, and they need to be idempotent so a replayed event does not double-count.

Surface the few fields that matter inside the CRM, not all of them. A salesperson needs to see plan, MRR, renewal date, and payment health on the contact record. They do not need the full billing ledger. Push the signal, leave the detail where it lives.
