Onboarding Funnel
An onboarding funnel is the sequence of steps a new user moves through from sign-up to becoming an activated, value-getting customer, viewed as a funnel so you can see where people drop off. Each step, verify email, complete profile, connect data, take the key action, has a conversion rate, and the funnel exposes the exact stages bleeding users.
For a founder this is where retention is won or lost, because most of the damage happens in the first session. If users abandon before they reach value, no amount of clever lifecycle email will save them. Treating onboarding as a measurable funnel, rather than a one-off flow you built once and forgot, lets you find the single worst step and fix it, then the next. The goal is to march users toward your activation event with as few drop-off points as possible. A 10% lift early in the funnel compounds through every later stage.
