Self-Serve Motion

A self-serve motion is a go-to-market model where customers discover, try, buy, and onboard entirely on their own, with no salesperson involved. They find the product, sign up, hit a paywall or upgrade prompt, enter a card, and they're a paying customer, all without a human touch. The product, pricing page, and onboarding do the entire job of selling.

This is the most leverage a solo or lean founder can get, because it removes the single most expensive and least scalable part of growth: people selling. Once the machine works, it serves the thousandth customer as cheaply as the first, and it runs while you sleep. The catch is that it only works when the product is simple enough to understand without a demo and cheap enough to buy without sign-off. For higher-priced or complex products, self-serve becomes the front end of a product-led sales motion rather than the whole story.
